Patrician Brothers' College is a Bring Your Own Device (BOYD) school

Our BYOD program applies to all students and requiriers the integration of technology into all aspects of learning and teaching. Students are required to bring their own device that they will manage and use at school. Parents can choose from a list of recommended devices or find another suitable device that meets the minimum specifications at a competitive price.

Compass has been adopted as the school learning management platform and all teachers are required to use this technology in their classrooms. Teachers are also encouraged to use other suitable programs and applications to further enhance teaching and learning.

Accepted devices

Students can choose to purchase one of the following devices for use in class:

  • Apple Laptop - MacOS 12.0 (Monterey) or above
  • Windows Laptop - Windows 10 Professional or Windows 11 Professional

Please note, Chromebooks are not accepted and cannot be used as a student learning device in the BYOD program.

At Patrician Brothers’ College we offer our families one-stop access purchasing portals with our preferred supplier partners ASI, CompNow, HP and Apple. Alternatively, you may choose to purchase from any reputable retailer.

Minimum requirements

Wireless connectivity
Devices must support the following:

  • Wireless frequencies (2.4GHz and 5 GHz)
  • 802.11 “a”, “g”, “n”, “ac” and/or “ax” wireless standards
  • WPA2 enterprise security

Screen size
Ensure the screen size is of a reasonable size not less than 13 inches (35cm measured diagonally) and a resolution of 1080p to enable ease of use throughout the school day.

Hardware features
A camera/video camera and microphone is necessary to ensure students can participate in learning activities A stylus or keyboard is optional though may be useful.

Battery Life
6 hours minimum battery life. The device needs to last a full school day

Memory and RAM
To be able to store and process effectively, the device requires 128 Solid State Drive and 8GB RAM.
